»Greenfield or brownfield?« A pilot S/4HANA
rollout project

An international company plans to switch its SAP system to S/4HANA. The million-dollar question: is a greenfield or brownfield approach better? Should they roll out a brand new system or migrate the existing one? We were commissioned to complete an analysis of the existing infrastructure and business objectives, and to come up with a firm proposal. Our analysis covered around 20 main processes, various interdepartmental roles, 15 important master data objects, 30 key users and 10 specialists from the SAP unit.

During this work, we discovered just how complicated the old SAP system had become in its 20-year lifetime: hundreds of silo solutions, reprogramming efforts and modifications had turned it into ‘SAP spaghetti’. Our recommendation was short and to the point: a new system! And the pilot solutions we then launched for areas like planning and variant configuration soon showed the effectiveness of this proposal.
